This week in Nursery we continued working on our 5 senses unit and looked at Hearing. The children played with lots of quiet and loud toys and made lots of noise!!
We got to play lots of instruments. The guitar, the harmonica, the tin whistle (similar to a recorder), a violin and a ukulele. The children really loved trying the different instruments and listening to the different sounds.
On Wednesday in Nursery we had a great time making cookies! We had some lovely parents come visit and show the kids how to make them.
We all had a lot of fun making the cookies and really enjoyed tasting them afterwards. Delicious! Thank you so much to the parents for their visit!!!
This week in Nursery we had more fun playing with Boxes. We made an elevator and race track and the children counted small toy bears and put them in boxes with different numbers.
The children pretended they were in Ms Loli’s house and pressed the button to go to each floor.
There was something different on each floor and when we wanted to go to a floor, e.g. No. 3, the children had to press number 3 and jump 3 times, while counting, to get to the floor.
This was a really fun way to help the children with their number recognition. We had a blast teaching Math through movement!
This week in Nursery we started our new unit: Boxes! Children love boxes and find so many different ways to use them. We’ve all seen kids who ignore a new toy and go play with the box instead and we’re going to try use their amazing imaginations to explore the different shapes, sizes and uses of boxes. Throughout this unit, we will use boxes to develop and strengthen our problem solving, prediction making, and investigative skills.
The children explored all different sized boxes, creating drums, shakers, cars, buses, hiding inside and jumping out.
They also stuck pipe cleaners in holes in the boxes to make a monster!!
We’re looking forward to the rest of the unit and seeing what else their imaginations can show us!!
To celebrate the act of giving thanks, we invited 3rd grade to come to our classroom for the morning. Our children worked really hard to make them personalized bracelets during the week, which they gave to the 3rd graders when they came.
In return, the big kids sat down with the Nursery children and made them a gorgeous drawing using autumn leaves.
We paired them up and they got to work! They showed the children how to make a drawing by rubbing a crayon with a leaf on some paper. They also wrote them a little message. The children were so excited to have the big kids over, and the exchange was very sweet. It was great to see the 3rd graders take charge and teach the younger ones how to do it, and then give it to them as a present.
We had so much fun and are so grateful for this experience! 🙂
