2/3 Overnight Trip – Cardona Day 1

Written by Makiko M. Posted in 1st Grade

We didn’t let the rain stop us from having fun!

We had a successful but busy Day 1 of our 2nd and 3rd grade Overnight Trip to Cardona. We arrived to the beautiful town of Cardona and had the opportunity to visit the amazing salt mines! Students were eager to learn so much about the history of Cardona and how the salt mine was formed. They even go to try the salt directly from the mine!

We were also able to explore the wonderful town of Cardona through various fun activities and have lunch!

We arrived to the Vilar Rural de Cardona just in time for dinner!

We have a busy day ahead of us tomorrow and students are fast asleep! We will keep you updated through this blog!

Thank you so much to all the volunteers who helped to make our St. Jordi Used Book Sale the best ever!

We raised an incredible

This would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of all the volunteers who donated books, helped to sort and box them, carry all those boxes to the fair and do an outstanding job of helping parents and students find just the right book. (Not to mention helping out with the tidy-up afterwards!)

It is a wonderful achievement and my gratitude goes out to all those who made it possible.  Your help and support is very much appreciated.

All the money will now go to make our BFIS Libraries even better!

Thank you!

Henry and Mudge by Cynthia Rylant

In March, Grade 1 students are working on keepin’ it real with Realistic Fiction.

Realistic Fiction are stories with made up characters that could actually happen in real life. Characters have problems and discover solutions that we could have in our lives.  Readers share the thinking and feelings of each character and develop empathy towards the situations in realistic fiction.  Students ask themselves, “What would I do if this was me?”

Here is a link to my presentation on Realistic Fiction with books that are available to check out in our Elementary Library.

Happy Reading!
