Thank you so much to everyone who helped to make our Summer Book Fair the best ever!

We sold an incredible 3100€!

This would not have been possible without the generosity of parents and students.  This means our Elementary Library will have earned 900€ worth of Usborne Books.  You will see these books appear in our catalogue in September.

A big thank you also to the parent volunteers who did an outstanding job of helping parents and students find just the right book.  It is a wonderful achievement and my gratitude goes out to all those who made it possible.

If you or your child reserved a book, I still have them available in the library.  Come and get them, if you still want them.  If not, don’t worry!

Your help and support is very much appreciated.

Thank you!

Miss Emma

Reading can be one of the many fun activities with which children fill their summer time. Research has shown it is also much more! Children who participate in summer reading not only avoid the “summer slide” in learning, but also come back to school in September with a greater success in their reading.

The Elementary School Library’s 2017 Recommended Summer Reading Lists

have been published and are available at the links below.  These curated lists provide a varied selection of high quality literature for elementary students from Kindergarten to Grade 5.  There is also the Middle School Recommended Summer Reading List available for Grade 5 students entering Middle School in the upcoming school year.

Print copies can be picked up in the ES library.

As we get ready for those long summer days, how about a great read to take with us to the beach, to the airport or even having some extra time at home to curl up with a great read.  Well, our Summer Book Fair might be just the place to find that book.  Usborne Books are hosting this year’s Summer Book Fair in the Main Reception (next to the Elementary School Library) on Wednesday 14th June.  Your child’s class will have the opportunity to come at a time chosen by their teacher that day.  The Fair is also open until 4:30, if you would like to come after school.  We will be sending envelopes and a reminder home before the Book Fair.

As a celebration of the great books on offer, Usborne have donated prizes for our Book Cover Competition.  Use your own imagination to design one book cover.  Here are some ideas:

  • A book you would like your favorite author to write.
  • A book you would like to write.
  • A book that’s been written with a brand new cover.

One winner will be chosen from each ES grade level (K-5).  The winning covers will be displayed in Elementary Library. Entries must be drawn directly on the back of this page or submitted electronically. (Size A4).  Please include the title and author’s name as part of your cover design.

Here is a link to the entry which are also available  in the Elemenatry Library.

Responsibility is doing the things we are supposed to do, and accepting the positive or negative outcome of our actions.   It is being in control of your own behavior, being trusted with important jobs, finishing the work you start and doing your part when working together.

Authors often use the theme of responsibility in their writing.  These books are excellent examples of the positive or negative outcome of a charcater’s actions.

Here is the link to Grade 4 Morning Meeting presentation on the theme of responsibility.
