Yesterday we had our last meeting for the Our Cities project at  our own exhibition in CASA ORLANDAI, which will remain up until Sunday. We had a lot of fun despite the rain. We made a small THINK TANK with our thoughts & feelings about the whole program.  Another successful year of including architecture education as part of our art education curriculum at BFIS!

Fourth grade students have been learning about abstract expressionism, the act of expressing emotion through spontaneous creativity without focusing on the final product.  We looked at the work of various artists including Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Helen Frankenthaler and Gerhard Ricter.  Students then created Pollock style action paintings using ketchup and mustard bottles full of of paint, and Rothko style layered color paintings using squeegies and masking tape.  It was a lot of fun!   Expressionism

3rd Grade Papier-mâché Letters

Students in 3rd grade have been working hard on construction a letter out of cardboard.  For most students it was the first letter of their first or last name but a few chose a letter that represents something important to them other than their name.  They then did three layers of paper mache to over the cardboard and painted the letter.  They’ll be going home and in bedrooms soon!
