We are really excited about our annual BFIS Cultural Trips on September 28-30th.  Please take a moment to look at the information here and return the permission slips to your child’s advisors, including authorization for billing.

These trips are always very popular and attendance is highly recommended as there are no classes or alternative options at school during this time.

Back to School Night

We will be hosting our annual Back To School Night on September 14 from 6-8pm, and we hope you will be able to join us. We will begin at 6pm sharp in the MS/HS Cafeteria. During the evening, parents go through a shortened version of their student’s schedule and are able to visit each teacher and each room. This will help you get acquainted with your child’s teachers and receive information about the class and teacher availability.

Parent Book Club

Written by Paul Fulce. Posted in MS/HS Principal

Are you into reading? Would you like to participate in some literary conversation with other members of the BFIS community? The BFIS Library is currently organizing this year’s book discussion group.

Who? It’s open to adult community members (parents and staff). The minimum number is five (including David Cevoli, the librarian), and the maximum number is nine. It’s on a first come, first serve basis, so be sure to sign up as soon as possible if you’re interested.

When and where? It will take place monthly on either Tuesdays or Thursdays from 4:20 to 5:20 in the Glass Class (MS/HS LIbrary). The space will be available from 4:00 to 4:20 for chatting & refreshment. The discussions will begin promptly at 4:20.

Which books? We will decide the reading list democratically through a voting process. Once the membership is finalized, David will solicit three suggested titles from each member, and everyone will vote for the nine titles of their choice. We’re aiming for thought-provoking fiction of modest length. The books do not need to be contemporary.

How do I join? Fill out this form by Thursday, September 15th. David will tally the results and set the monthly schedule soon after that.

Fall MAP Testing

Written by Paul Fulce. Posted in MS/HS Principal

From September 20-22, and October 5-6, students in 6th Grade through 10th Grade will take tests called Measures of Academic Progress® (MAP®). We give students MAP tests have an external measure of each child’s growth throughout the school year, and from year to year in the areas of Reading, Mathematics, and Language Usage.  Your child will take these tests on a computer.

MAP tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for your child’s level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing. Your child will spend a total of about three hours over the course of three separate days completing these tests.

Each school year, students in 3rd Grade through 10th Grade take the tests in around the beginning of the year and the beginning of Spring. Following each testing period, you will receive a report showing your child’s growth.
