During the week of December 9-13 for Computer Science Education Week, BFIS students

grades 1-10 and their teachers will have the opportunity to participate in “One Hour of Code” activities. More than 3 million students from more than 141 countries worldwide will be participating .
The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify “code” and show that anyone can learn the basics to be a maker, a creator, an innovator. It’s now on track to be the largest online education event in history, proving that the demand for relevant computer science education knows no boundaries. See every school participating here.Throughout the week hands-on sessions will be offered each day in the computer lab, along with some “unplugged” activities (not requiring computers) in lower elementary. Lisa Howells, BFIS Educational Technology Specialist, will be teaching the classes.

Students and parents will continue to have access to the self-guided tutorials for all ages, including an Angry Birds activity using blocks to build code, Java and Python tutorials and more. Check out the tutorials at: Hour of Code Tutorials .

MS Parent Teacher Conference Follow Up

Written by Nick Preston. Posted in Administration, MS Coordinator, Parent Info

We are delighted that so many of you came with your child(ren) to visit the teachers and learn about active ways you can support your student’s success in the classroom.

We are sorry that there were some glitches in the booking system.  We are running some enquiries and have worked with google to try and ascertain why the system did not work as well as it has in the past.  If you were one who was inconvenienced, please accept our apologies.

We’d like to remind you that our teachers are available every day during their prep times to meet with parents.  You don’t have to wait until the next official parent-teacher conference.  Please feel free to email your child’s teacher(s) if you would like a conference at any point.  Remember that a teacher’s email address is simply the teacher’s first name, the first initial of the last name @bfischool.org . Please let Paul, Nick, or Martha know if we can assist you in this endeavor.

Meantime, please take one minute to fill out this quick survey about your recent PTC experience.  Your feedback will truly help us in considering future conference structures.
