On Thursday in Kindergarten we finished our unit on Persuasive writing.

We enjoyed sharing our work with our friends in a Publication party, giving them compliments, asking questions and making suggestions.

We are now moving on to our final writing unit for this year, Fairy Tales!

Addition to 10

Written by Kathy Shepherd. Posted in Kindergarten

Over the last month, we have been working on addition problems to 10.

The children have been working on understanding that the there are different combinations of number to make bigger numbers.

For example:

1 and 7 is 8

2 and 6 is 8

3 and 5 is 8

4 and 4 is 8

5 and 3 is 8

6 and 2 is 8

7 and 1 is 8

We have been working on this using the rekenreks and practicing number bonds.

We then moved on to writing number sentences.

For example:

1 + 7 = 8

2+ 3 = 5

As a final activity before moving on to subtraction next week, we had a pizza party in which the children made number sentence depending on how many slices of pizza they would like to eat.

We had so much fun doing this activity!

Here are some games we have been playing in class which your child might enjoy playing at home:

Local Culture

Written by Kathy Shepherd. Posted in Kindergarten

During December and January Kinder has been working on a unit called Local Culture.

In this unit we have learnt about some different important places such as Tibidabo, Montjuic, Camp Nou and about some of Gaudí´s most famous works including La Sagrada Familia and Parc Guell.

As part of this unit, we made large group drawing of different places in Barcelona.

Finally, we were on a field trip to Parque Guell and La Sagrada Familia and had a great time!

We are looking forward to starting our next unit about the 7 Continents next week.

The Little Red Hen

Written by Kathy Shepherd. Posted in Nursery

As part of our Farm Unit, we read the story of the Little Red Hen. In the story, the hen asks her friends, the pig, the goose and the horse for help to prepare the wheat for making bread.

We decided it would be fun to make some bread just like the Little Red Hen!

First we had to add the ingredients: flour, yeast, a little sugar and salt and some hot water.

Secondly we mixed it all up and kneaded the dough.

Then the children turned the dough into a shape they liked: pizzas, dinosaurs, fish, lions etc.

Lastly, we gave the trays to the chef to bake for us in the oven.

We really enjoyed making bread 🙂

Miss Kathy and Miss Irene´s visit from Fourth Grade

Written by Kathy Shepherd. Posted in Nursery

On Friday, Miss Kathy and Miss Irene´s class had their third exciting visit from Miss MaryAnn´s Fourth Grade class.

The Fourth graders came down to read the Nursery children a story or two which they picked.

We loved making new friends while listening to our favorite stories.

Miss MaryAnn´s class will be visiting our Nursery class every second Friday.
