Castellano 3º, “Orión y los animales magos”

“Orión nunca se separa de su amo Isidro, un músico callejero, pero cuando este es internado en un hospital, tiene que huir de la ciudad para no acabar encerrado en la perrera. En el bosque encuentra una mistriosa caja con grabados chinos, y descubre que los animales que allí viven también sienten mucha curiosidad por saber qué contiene. Ninguno de ellos se puede imaginar las cosas tan asombrosas que empezarán a ocurrir en el bosque.”

Durante estas últimas semanas, hemos estado trabajando en nuestro Plan Lector en las clases de Castellano. A partir de la lectura de esta novela en la que el protagonista es un perro, hemos realizado diferentes actividades: Nos hemos informado sobre el autor y el ilustrador, hemos hablado sobre los diferentes tipos de animales y plantas que podemos encontrar en el bosque, hemos leído algunos pasajes y después hemos tratado de interpretar lo que podían significar o de adivinar cómo podía continuar la historia… Además nos hemos convertido en ilustradores y hemos tratado de diseñar nuestra propia cubierta, hemos aprendido a “leer imágenes” tratando de comprender qué emociones transmiten  y hemos ampliado nuestro vocabulario con palabras nuevas relacionadas con los campos semánticos de la magia y de los instrumentos musicales.

Al volver de las vacaciones acabaremos con el plan lector confeccionando la ficha del libro y justificando nuestra opinión personal sobre la historia.


De ruta por España (II)

Esta semana hemos acabado nuestro particular “tour” por las diferentes Comunidades Autónomas de España. Ya hemos comentado todo el mapa, hemos observado las características particulares de cada comunidad, sus límites fronterizos con las comunidades vecinas, las provincias más importantes, su gastronomía y principales monumentos.



Para aprender todo ésto, hemos utilizado diferentes soportes como : Power points, videos turísticos, páginas web de los principales monumentos etc etc. . En enero elaboraremos un proyecto sobre alguna de las Comunidades.


Gran Teatre del Liceu

During the past weeks, 4th and 5th grades have been studying the Gran Teatre del Liceu. 

We have learned  when was it built, where can we find it, who was the responsible for the bomb that explode in 1893, which was the causative for the fire that destroyed the building in 1994… And many other things!

To learn all of that, we used a power point as a main support and we took some notes of the most important information.  We have done a research project about the fire and then we have done a little writing on this subject.

Let’s Read Over the Holidays!

This holiday season, you can give your child lots of opportunities to read.  As our Elementary School Librarian, many parents ask me how they can inspire their young readers to read every day.  Here are some top tips which can offer some fun ways to help your child become a happy and confident reader. Try a new tip each week and see what works best for your child.


Don’t leave home without it

Bring along a book or magazine any time your child has to wait, such as at the airport.   Always try to fit in reading!


Once is not enough

Encourage your child to re-read favorite books and poems. Re-reading helps kids read more fluently and accurately.


Dig deeper into the story

Ask your child questions about the story they’ve just read or one you have read with them.  Here is a checklist of questions that can help you plan your conversation.


Take control of the television

It’s difficult for reading to compete with TV and video games. Encourage reading as a free-time activity.  It’s a great incentive for your child to know that you will talk about their reading with them afterwards.


Be patient

When your child is trying to sound out an unfamiliar word, give him or her time to do so. Remind your child to look closely at the first letter or letters of the word.  For older readers, if you think that your child is not answering questions about their reading as well as you think they could, give them time to think about their answers.


Pick books that are at the right level

Help your child pick books that are not too difficult. The aim is to give your child lots of successful reading experiences.


I read to you, you read to me

Take turns reading aloud at bedtime. Kids enjoy this special time with their parents.


Gently correct your young reader

When your child makes a mistake, gently point out the letters he or she overlooked or read incorrectly. Many beginning readers will guess wildly at a word based on its first letter.  Older readers need help with interpreting text at a deeper level.  Help them along the way as they explore between the lines.


Talk, talk, talk!

Talk with your child every day about school and things going on around the house. Sprinkle some interesting words into the conversation, and build on words you’ve talked about in the past.


Write, write, write!

Ask your child to help you write out the grocery list, a thank you note for those holiday gifts, or to keep a journal of special things that happen at home. This activity will help them explore the power of words and give them an opportunity to use some of these great words they’ve discovered in their reading.

Kinder & 1st Grade Rothko’s

Mark Rothko is a Russian-American Abstract Expressionist who is best known for his ‘color field’ paintings.  He felt that traditional methods of showing emotion in art were outdated, eventually settling on the idea that large, simple areas of color worked best.  His later works show only two, three or four rectangles lined up one on top of another vertically on a huge scale, choosing colors that conveyed his emotions and inviting the viewer to get lost in his paintings.

4/5th Cubist Style Slab Portraits

In 4th and 5th grades, students studied Cubism, looking at the works of Georges Baraque, Paul Cezanne and Pablo Picasso.  Cubism was an early 20th-century style art movement, in which multiple perspectives are shown at once and objects are broken up and reassembled in a recognizable but abstracted collage of simple geometric shapes, creating a limited sense of depth.  In the past, we’ve studied Cubism as part of a painting unit.  This year I thought we’d try something different, and made our Cubist style portraits out of clay.  They came out great!
