The Science of SOUND

Written by ShenaK. Posted in 3rd Grade

We have ended our Science unit on the Human Body and have begun our new unit looking into the science of SOUND.  Students have begun investigations into different ways sound travels, how sounds are made, how sounds change in water, among others.  After a week of experiments students will begin their own Sound investigation, going around to many different parts of the school and measuring sound levels.  All this data will be compiled and students will type up their finding, complete with data analysis at the end of our unit.  As a final cumulative project, we will hold the 3rd Grade Science Fair on Tuesday, March 4th from 3:00 to 3:45.  Parents are most welcome and we hope you will be able to attend and see the hard work of your young scientists!  We will make sure to send out further details as the time draws closer, but want you to know about it now so you can plan ahead.

Written by Anna Perez. Posted in ES CSCS

Writing to Persuade

Written by ShenaK. Posted in 3rd Grade

In 3rd grade we have begun a new and exciting unit in Writing on Persuasive Writing.  Our first project was writing a collective essay on a chosen topic by the class.  Ms. Shena’s class decided upon the topic of persuading to have Just Dance time on Fridays.  Ms. Meritxell’s class is arguing to have a class pet.  They have been working hard on developing their reasons, strengthening them with examples, and thinking about what reasons will best appeal to their audience.  This week we will continue working on ways to find topics or ideas that they can write about.  Eventually next week each student will choose one idea, and “plant the seed,” devise their thesis, and begin to develop their reasons.  We can’t wait to see what they decide to do once they are to choose and develop the topic of their choice.  Stay tuned for more as the unit progresses!
